Southern Freeze 2026

Race Director’s Notes

The Southern Freeze has always been a straight-up winter run — early start, cold air, no nonsense. Some years we get true freezing temps; other years land in the “just chilly” zone. Either way, we start in the dark, and that’s part of the identity of this race.

This year, we’re moving the start and finish to Scofflaw Brewing, which gives us a solid base of operations and an easy, warm place to gather once the miles are done.

What to Expect on Race Morning

We’ll be starting before sunrise, so bring your headlamp and be ready for those cold first steps. The course opens up gradually as daylight comes in, but the early miles will feel very much like winter — steady, quiet, and honest running.

No surprises, no frills. Just a solid winter race.

At the Finish

When you come back into Scofflaw, we’ll have:

  • Hot chocolate

  • Chicken and dumplings

  • Warm space to regroup

  • And plenty of company as runners roll in

If you’re not racing — or if you finish early — bring a chair and help us line the finish area. Cheering makes a huge difference for the runners coming in behind you, especially in the cold.

Final Notes

Southern Freeze isn’t a complicated event and that’s by design. Show up early, run strong, support each other, and enjoy a winter morning that feels different from anything else on the calendar.

We’ll see you in the dark at Scofflaw — headlamps on and ready to go.
